Paladins

Class:  Paladin
Arch-type:  Tank
Abbreviation:  PAL
Specialty:  The Divine Tank
Special Abilities:  Taunting AC Buff or Give AC to Another
Primary Stats:  Strength & Stamina
Description:  Paladins are the holy knights of Norrath, upholding the purity and righteousness of the land. They are the protectors of the peace and stand for all that is holy in the world, shunning all the evil darkness that corrupts the world.

Strengths:
  • Good defensive tank - Has shield attacks
  • Ability to heal
  • Ability to resurrect themselves
Weaknesses:
  • Can't wield two weapons
  • Not as offensive as other tank classes
  • Shield attacks take lots of mana to use
Creation Tips:  Paladins are a fun class to play that are quite different than the other two tank classes. Your job is the same, no matter what tank class you play but paladins have a slight edge in survivability. First is the ability to heal, either themselves or others. They have a regular heal but they also have Lay Hands (the opposite of the Shadowknight's Harm Touch) which is a large heal but can only be used once an hour. It can be the difference between life and death for you or a party member. Also, through CM's, a paladin can Resurrect themselves and thus reduce the amount of XP debt they have when they die. A paladins rez is the equal to a cleric rez (til level 50+) getting up to 50% debt removal. This is good since you won't always be in a group with a cleric and can save you a lot over the life of your character. The downside is that you don't have invisibility so if you die while soloing, you should get an invis. from someone before you rez or face another death when you rez.

Paladins also are deadly against undead creatures. Their undead self proc buff significantly increase the speed at which you kill undead. In a group, paladins can do as much damage as a Direct Damage when fighting undead.

The stats you should pay attention to are Strength, Stamina, Agility, Dexterity. Strength is one of your primary stats so is used to determine damage, taunt, and your power. Stamina, also a primary stat, is for HP and Power. Agility helps with your defensive ability and Dexterity helps you land attacks more effectively. Focus on your primary stats but don't neglect the other two stats. Paladins also have two other stats that you may put points into but isn't a huge priority. These are Wisdom and Charisma. Wisdom increases the damage your undead proc spells do. Charisma increases your heal. Since you aren't a healer and you are usually grouped with a healer, I wouldn't worry about Charisma at all. You may want to put a few points into Wisdom if you plan on killing undead a lot, otherwise, don't bother with it.
